Writing about building the things mostly in Rust...mostly...

Blog Highlight: How do you stop being a Rust novice?

I read this post yesteday evening via This Week in Rust

It resonated.

Unfortunately, I've done the exact opposite. I've spent over 4 years glossing over the language basics and diving in where angels fear to tread.

The way I'm wired, I kind of have to. See, the thing is, studying language syntax for the sake of it has always left me a bit cold. I've always been about making something, often too big, always too early. My learning style is to bite of more than I can chew, and slowly whittle it down and repeat it until things stick.

Do Rustlings? Nope. I think I'm the only person on the planet that hates it.

Read the Rust Book? Tried...cover to cover even...not practical enough.

I even tried Rust for Rustaceans before I was finished the Rust Book, nearly drowned, of course.

It's frustrating, I know the basics would likely help me, but they're just so...boring in isolation.

Anyway, it's a great article and the author lays out the right strategy.

Don't be like me.
